Internet Marketing in general can be a very scary and costly adventure. In theory, you should be able to spend money to make money. What happens to most people that are new to internet marketing is that they spend carelessly and hope to return a profit.
You have probably once saw an advertising agency or someone trying to sell you something that will “guarantee signups” or give you “10,000 visitors to your site.” At first you realize that something like this will most likely never work. Which of course most of the time they don’t. Then you will start to convince yourself that it might work by saying that “even if only 1 out of 10,000 people purchase my product, I will still make a profit!”
If you are careless about your marketing efforts and just try anything that promises you “guaranteed” anything, you will most likely be setting yourself up for disappointment. Now I’m not saying that you should never test any of these types of advertising options for you internet business, but you should be really careful at how much money and how much hope you invest into your choice.
Always research a company fairly extensively before making a significant purchase. Even if you are just looking to buy something for a measly $10 don’t jump into it. A 10 dollar loss here and a 15 dollar loss there will add up in time. The internet is a great place for you to search for a review of the company you may choose to work with for your advertising. If a company has a bad reputation, it will be really easy to uncover that.
Stick to reputable companies with proven track records. If a company has been working for a lot of people in the past, don’t reinvent the wheel. A common mistake most new marketers face is they are all trying to find something that doesn’t cost a lot but produces massive results.
You also need to have realistic expectations of the return on investment. You will NEVER be able to spend $10 on something and have it bring in $1,000’s in profit. The closest that you will ever get to that is buying a lottery ticket. If you can double you money on any form of advertising, that is considered a great investment. For instance, if you spend $1,000 on a postcard marketing campaign and receive $2,000 in sales, you double your money.
The mistake most people new to marketing their internet based business face, is not having a big enough budget. It is all to common for people to expect to spend $50 or so and make $1,000’s just from that. It just doesn’t work that way. Yes, some forms of marketing do produce higher ROI’s than others, but the most important thing you need to know is to be patient in your advertising. Don’t spend your money carelessly on things that promise high returns, spend your money on advertising avenues that will work almost every single time you use them. Be patient and you will succeed!
