Even with all that information, it’s still common for people to mess up. The primary reasons this occurs is because those people lack the know-how and they’ve never really experienced anything like Adwords before. The first mistake is not testing where your ad places, especially if Google’s top position in the search is your goal. Many would say this is where you want to be, but it can actually be a bad thing. Even though you have the top spot, you may not automatically find yourself successful. Many times ads in lower positions have a higher click through rate. So in essence, you must keep testing your ROI for each of your advertisement’s positions. In many cases you’ll make more money in the 4th or 5th position, just because you’re paying less, which means your customer acquisition cost is lower. The next mistake we’ll address is that of only creating one ad and not having any others to test it against. You obviously need to create at least one ad that targets certain keywords. You have to remember, however, that your ad may need to be adjusted or improved, and with only one solitary ad it’s hard to know how to do this. You won’t have a way to test your ad. So it’s important to have at least two different ads so that you know which ad performs better. Once you know which ad is giving you better results, you can easily replace the other ads that aren’t working so well. This technique, which is called split testing, is well known among experienced AdWords users.

Turning off the content network is the best option when you’re first creating a campaign. This feature will be on by default until you turn it off, and unless you are an experienced user, it probably won’t work well for you. This is a type of contextual advertising in which Google puts your ads on partner sites it deems relevant. The reason that you don’t see good results with this advertising is because the click through rate is really low. You will see impressions but the CTR will be poor. Many of the click throughs you do get will not convert well, as they tend to be more browsers than buyers. All in all, Google AdWords takes some time before you actually see results, which is why it’s important to keep in mind the above mistakes and avoid making them. This program can be a good investment, as it can lead to quality traffic, but if you throw money into it carelessly you can also take a loss. You should always know what’s going on with all your campaigns so you can keep up the profitable ones and phase out those that aren’t giving you good results.
